Event TabsSummaryDates: Tuesday, November 29, 2016 to Friday, December 2, 2016Location: Victoria Falls Zimbabwe ZW Type: WorkshopThe Southern Africa Regional Climate Services Workshop was held in Zimbabwe on 29 November - 2 December 2016. The workshop was jointly organized by the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology MeteoSwiss, GFCS Office at WMO, Meteorological Services Department (MSD) of Zimbabwe and Deutscher Wetterdienst (Germany‘s National Meteorological Service). The workshop took place in the framework of the CATCOS (Capacity Building and Twinning for Climate Observing Systems) project, which is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated by MeteoSwiss. Considering the current capacities of the NMHSs in the region, the workshop aimed at identifying gaps between existing and required climate services with focus on Agriculture and Food Security and DRR. Recommendations were formulated on how to build upon the good progress made in recent years, in order to exploit the full potential of climate information for the selected priority areas. Overall, the workshop contributed to further consolidating southern African climate service capacities, thereby supporting the implementation of the GFCS in the region.
