Project and National Framework for Climate Services Alignment in Tanzania

On 4 April 2019, the GFCS Tanzania Project Delivery Team (PDT) met at the Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA) Headquarters to take stock of the implementation of activities under the Adaptation Programme in Africa (APA II) project. 

During the meeeting, TMA Director General Dr Agnes Kijazi expressed her appreciation for partners’ support and effort in the implementation of GFCS, which led to the success preparation and launch of the Tanzania National Framework for Climate Services (NFCS). "I urge you to consider the deliberation on the implementation of NFCS as an important agenda in every PDT meeting," said Dr Kijazi.

Together with PDT Chair Dr. Ladislaus Chang’a, Dr Kijazi presented copies of NFCS to invited participants, including development partner representatives from the World Bank and United Nations Development Programme; participants from the Vice President Office, and President Offices’ Regional,Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), as part of efforts to enhance understanding and accelerate implementation of the NFCS.

The PDT received and deliberated on quarterly progress reports on the implementation of GFCS APA phase II from Tanzania Red Cross Society (TRCS), Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA), World Food Programme (WFP) and Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), and update from GFCS technical advisor from GPSC meeting agenda held on 23 January 2019. In general the implementation of the GFCS APA Phase II activities is progressing well. 

PDT is responsible for monitoring progress on programme activities, planning and implementing joint activities, which normally meets quarterly and consists of  participants from Tanzania Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Vice President Office, Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), World Health Organization (WHO), World Food Program (WFP-TZ), Tanzania RedCross Society (TRCS) and Tanzania Meteorological Agency (TMA).
