National Consultation Workshop on the National Framework for Climate Services in Guinea

From 11th to 12th July 2018, a national consultation workshop was hosted by Guinea National Meteorological Department in Conakry. Nearly 70 participants attended the first day of the meeting. The first day was marked by the presence of his excellency the Minister of State, Minister in charge of transport who generously opened the ceremony. After the allocutions from different representatives (Guinea Meteo, Ministry of transport, GFCS, ECOWAS) the first session of the meeting was mainly on the GFCS presentation and the process of implementation at national country level. Afterwards, five multidisciplinary groups have exchanged with five different experts on weather forecasting and climate prediction information, agrometeorological and indigenous knowledge, meteorological infrastructure, telecommunication and communication, hydrology information and rivers floods early warning, and disaster risk management.

The main objective of the second day was to establish the road map for the Guinea NFCS strategical and action plan development and to develop recommendations as a follow-up from the workshop. This has been done through working groups on agriculture and food security, water resource, energy, health, disaster risk management, transport and infrastructure, and meteorology. The results will be considered in the development of the Guinea Conakry NFCS strategic and action plan.
